Our Trustees
We have a diverse board of Trustees who are leaders in their fields, appointed because of their commitment to mental health and their experience and skills, which enable them to undertake the responsibilities of trusteeship of a professional and complex charity. They ensure we make the best use of our funds and continue conducting research and activities exclusively to pursue our charitable objectives. They play a vital role in ensuring the proper procedures and policies are in place to effectively manage the charity’s resources, provide a long-term vision, and protect our reputation and values.

Trustee (Treasurer)
My name is Kathleen (Kath) MacKenzie.
I have a background in social security dealing with claims for benefits, working as a national insurance inspector dealing with tax and national compliance checks of businesses in and around Edinburgh, London, and the South Coast. I have a degree from the Open University and volunteered at that time as a Student Representative Open Treasurer and Bookkeeper. I held this post for 4 years whilst also dealing with summer schools and the financial issues regarding student shop sales and event sales and costs.
Trustee
My name is Mary Lamont.
I have been part of Ewen's Room from the start, and I have enjoyed helping in many ways. I had the Salen Hotel until 1997, then The Pantry Tearoom in Acharacle until 2009. I have always been very involved in the local community since coming to Salen in 1984. I have 4 daughters, 6 grand-children and they all keep me busy along with my volunteering.
Trustee
My name is Jean Whitton.
I moved to the Ardnamurchan area a number of years ago on retirement. I became involved with Ewen’s Room through the ‘Open Doors’ drop-in sessions a few years later, and have been a trustee since 2020. It has been a joy to see how the charity has developed and grown over the years, reaching more people with a range of different initiatives promoting and helping mental wellbeing.
Trustee
My name is Jean Campbell.
I have been involved with Ewen’s Room from the very beginning. In 2009 I was responsible for nominating my then Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), Clair Rumgay as the Scottish Psychiatric Nurse of the Year. Her prize was £1,000 to be nominated to a charity of her choice. She felt Ewen’s Room was a worthy recipient. We joined forces under the Ewen’s Room banner with another local support group (Cearcall Aros) both having the overall aim of offering mental health support and company for those within the Ardnamurchan and Morvern peninsulas. And the rest is history! Since then I and others have ‘piloted’ Ewen’s Room Strontian Open Doors every Thursday morning since 2011. I have now passed the baton on to the younger generation. I still attend and would say that many other attendees have now become my friends! I remain connected as a trustee and wish the newly enlarged team every success.
Trustee
My name is Robert Reid.
I'm Robert, retired, and a 71-year-old who having had much help in life feels it is time to pay it forward and delighted to be able to do so via Ewen's Room.
Trustee
My name is Caroline Broughton.
I live with my husband Paul, 3 dogs, 21 chickens, 6 ducks, and two geese. As well as looking after the aforementioned, I also have two greenhouses and a polytunnel which keep me busy. In addition to all that we do the school transport for Ardnamurchan High School, I work at the local college and I am a relief librarian at Strontian. I also look after a holiday let in Sanna and have my own wee shepherd's hut in Kilchoan. If I get spare time then it is mostly spent with the dogs, but I do enjoy reading and jogging and anywhere where I can sit with my binoculars and watch the wildlife.
Trustee
My name is Isabel (Izzy) Buchan.
More information about them coming soon.
Trustee
My name is Charles (Charlie) Troman.
I have been a Brewer at The Glen Spean Brewing Co for just over four years. I am a strong believer that adventures big or small and the outdoors has a good effect on mental health and is a tool that I rely on to improve and maintain mine. I first got involved in Ewen's Room through a charity bike ride where I cycled from London to Morocco to raise funds for this great charity and more importantly to raise awareness for mental health and start the conversation!
